At Ananda Dhwani, we are proud to have a team of exceptional instructors, and at the heart of this team is Varun, our Lead Instructor. As the driving force behind our sound healing courses, Varun’s dedication to the transformative power of sound is evident in every class he leads. With years of experience in sound therapy and a passion for holistic healing, Varun is shaping the future of sound healing at Ananda Dhwani. Let’s dive into an interview with Varun to understand his journey, teaching philosophy, and the role of sound healing in transforming lives.
1. Varun, Can You Tell Us About Your Journey Into Sound Healing?
Varun: Sound healing sort of flowed into my life. As a child, I wanted to be a guitarist, but societal expectations and the need for stability led me to abandon that dream. Later, I wanted to study philosophy in school, but once again, I was advised to pursue something more practical, so I left that aspiration behind too. I have always been practicing yoga since childhood, and it wasn’t until 2010, when I saw a singing bowl at a small fair, that I felt an instant connection. I was fascinated by the sound, and my curiosity grew.
Later, I found an old bowl in the storeroom of my house. It turned out that my great-grandmother had used it as an eating vessel. I started playing it with a stick, and that was the beginning of my exploration into sound healing. After spending time in the corporate world with the best-paying job and the most flexibility, I realized that this didn’t bring me happiness. Despite being at the top level of my career, I felt something was missing. This realization led me back to yoga and ultimately to sound healing, where I found my true calling.
2. What Makes Ananda Dhwani’s Sound Healing Course Unique?
Varun: Ananda Dhwani’s sound healing course is truly unique in many ways. We blend traditional techniques with modern practices, allowing students to experience the full range of sound healing tools—from gongs to tuning forks, singing bowls, and more. One of the key factors that sets us apart is the personalized attention we offer to each student. With our small class sizes, we ensure that every student gets the support and guidance they need, whether it’s for personal growth or professional development.
Another standout feature is the deep focus on practical experience. Our students don’t just learn theory—they practice healing techniques on one another in a safe, guided environment. This hands-on experience helps them gain confidence and proficiency, making them ready to apply sound healing techniques in their daily lives or in their healing practices.
What we emphasize more than anything is that this isn’t just a physical training—it’s a journey of self-discovery and awakening. The course opens students’ views of the world, allowing them to see life as vibration, as a cosmic dance of frequencies. When you start to see the world through this lens, everything begins to shift. This mindset helps them become more flexible with life and more open to the subtle vibrations around them. Sound healing itself becomes a way of life, a way to stay in tune with oneself and the world around.
3. How Do You Incorporate Your Personal Philosophy into Teaching?
Varun: My personal philosophy is centered around the idea that healing through sound is not just a therapeutic process—it’s a transformative journey. I believe that every person has the ability to heal themselves, and sound healing is an incredible tool for unlocking that potential. I strive to teach my students not only the technical aspects of sound therapy but also how to connect with the vibration and frequency of the sounds they work with. This deeper connection to the tools and the self is key to providing meaningful healing.
I live my life with the philosophy of Nada Brahma—the idea that the universe is sound, and that sound is the very essence of creation. It’s this mindset that I encourage in my students: to experience the world as vibration. This approach allows them to open up to the endless possibilities that sound and vibration can bring into their lives, connecting them to a greater understanding of themselves and the universe.
I also emphasize the importance of self-healing alongside helping others. When students learn to heal themselves, they can heal others more effectively. I ensure that our course materials are designed to promote this balance of self-awareness and technical proficiency.
4. What Do You Hope Students Will Take Away from Ananda Dhwani’s Sound Healing Course?
Varun: My hope is that every student who attends our sound healing course leaves with a sense of empowerment. Whether they’re looking to integrate sound healing into their personal wellness practices or become professional sound healers, I want them to feel confident in their ability to make a difference. It’s not just about learning how to use the instruments; it’s about understanding how sound can influence vibrations, frequencies, and the energetic body to create lasting healing effects.
What I love most is when students share that the course has helped them reconnect with their own childlike wonder, creativity, and flexibility with life. Sound healing, at its core, is about being open—open to the flow of energy, open to the universe’s vibrations, and open to healing. When our students come back and tell us how they’ve integrated these principles into their lives, it brings me immense joy. They find themselves not just learning new tools, but awakening to a deeper, more harmonious way of living.
Our students leave with practical tools, but more importantly, they gain the confidence to use them in a real-world setting, whether it’s for group sound baths, individual sound therapy sessions, or simply healing their own personal challenges.
5. What Is the Most Rewarding Part of Being a Teacher at Ananda Dhwani?
Varun: The most rewarding part of being a teacher at Ananda Dhwani is seeing the transformation in our students. Watching them go from a place of uncertainty to feeling empowered and capable of using sound to heal themselves and others is incredibly fulfilling. It’s not just about teaching techniques—it’s about being a part of their journey and helping them realize their true potential.
One of the things I love most is when students come back after completing the course and share how they’ve applied what they’ve learned to help others. It’s a powerful reminder that we’re all part of this healing community—one that continues to grow and evolve.
6. Can You Share a Success Story from Your Students?
Varun: There have been many success stories, but one that stands out is a student who came to us with deep emotional trauma. She had tried many other healing modalities but hadn’t found lasting relief. After completing the sound healing course at Ananda Dhwani, she reported feeling a significant shift in her emotional state. The combination of sound healing techniques and the deep, transformative meditations we practice during the course helped her release old emotional blockages and achieve a sense of inner peace she had been searching for. Seeing her go on to help others with her newfound knowledge was a truly inspiring moment for me.
7. Why Do You Believe Sound Healing is So Powerful?
Varun: Sound healing is powerful because it taps into the most basic and universal form of energy: vibration. Everything in the universe is made up of vibration, and sound is one of the most accessible ways to influence and shift these vibrations for healing purposes. Whether we’re using tuning forks, singing bowls, or gongs, we are working with frequencies that resonate with the body, mind, and spirit, helping to bring balance and harmony.
I believe that sound can touch places within us that words cannot reach, helping to release blockages and heal on a deeper level. This is why sound healing is such a profound and transformative experience.
